Brunswick wrestlers take second in Canterbury Tournament

The Brunswick School wrestling team started the season in solid fashion. After starting the season with a dominating victory over perennial powers Horace Mann, winning 10 of the 14 bouts on the afternoon, the Bruins traveled up to the Canterbury Tournament on Saturday and finished second out of 19 schools.

Brunswick took the silver, while Avon Old Farms grabbed the top spot. The Bruins were able to edge out Loomis Chaffee School, while Northfield Mount Herman finished fourth on the day. Trinity-Pawling rounded out the top five.

Senior captain Jimmy Bell won the 132-poiund weight class, while fellow senior captain Owen Schubert grabbed second in the 138-pound weight class. Also taking second was All-American wrestler Matt Marvin, a junior, who competed in the 195-pound division.

The Bruins showed its team depth bu having the most individual place winners of any school at the tournament, finishing with eight on the day.

On Wednesday, it will be a battle of the top two teams in the Canterbury Tournament, as Brunswick travels up to Avon for a match with Avon Old Farms.
