Greenwich Academy swim team starts season with convincing win

The Greenwich Academy swim team started out the season on a high note, beating Chase Collegiate, 88-44 earlier today.

Leading the way for the Gators were its relays, as all three teams finished with the gold.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the foursome of Kitty Arenz, Borden Wahl, Sydney Heath and Quinn Scanell with a time of 1:58.84. Not to be outdone was the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Megan Apostolities, Regan Cowin, Neli Mintcheva and Hannah Goodrick, as they took first place with a time of 1:54.74.

Finishing the day was the 400-yard freestyle group of Borden Wahl, Hannah Goodrick, Hannah Subramaniam and Sydney Heath, as they touched the wall first with a time of 4:13.94.

Individually, Greenwich Academy was on top of its game. In the 200-yard freestyle event, GA’s  Subramaniam  took the gold with a time of 2:16.13, while Scanell took first in the next event, the 200-yard individual medley, with a time of 2:23.90.

During the 100-yard butterfly, Heath’s time of  1:10.01  was good enough for the top spot, while teammate Alex Binnie was the quickest to touch the wall in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:07.79.

Competing in the longest event of the day, the 500-yard freestyle, Kitty Arenz struck gold again, placing tops with a time of 5:37.19. Scanel kept the good times rolling along in the 100-yard backstroke, as she grabbed the top spot with a time of 1:10.43.

Rounding out the finishers for Greenwich Academy was Eri Sumino, as she won the 100-yard breaststroke with convincing time of 1:25.96.

With the victory, GA improved to 1-0 on the season.
