Local reverend takes to radio program

The Rev. Maxwell Grant, senior minister of Second Congregational United Church of Christ (2CC) will get some time in the spotlight on Dec. 15 and 22 when he will be the featured speaker on Day 1, the nationally syndicated ecumenical radio program, also accessible online at Day1.org, that is hosted by Peter Wallace.

Rev. Grant’s sermon for Dec. 15, the third Sunday of Advent, drawing from Matthew 11:2-11, is entitled “Looking for Christmas?”

“Is what we want really so different than a world in which ‘the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news brought to them?’” Rev. Grant asked. “I don’t know about you, but I think that’s exactly what we want,” he said. “What we want is the very world that John the Baptist had been looking for his whole life long.”

Rev. Grant’s sermon for Dec. 22, the fourth Sunday of Advent, based on Matthew 1:18-25, is entitled “Expecting Christmas.”

“Expectations can be so exhausting,” he said. “I think that’s why the season of Advent, these weeks before Christmas, seem so full of counter-cultural potential. They imagine such a different way of preparing for the birth of Jesus — one that can’t be rushed or shoehorned in between trips to the mall.”

Each program includes interviews with Rev. Grant conducted by Mr. Wallace.
