Selectmen to be sworn in Sunday

The Greenwich Board of Selectmen is not changing, but the term is over and people are invited to celebrate the accomplishments of the past four years and the hope for the next two at a Town Hall ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 1.

First Selectman Peter Tesei and Selectmen David Theis and Drew Marzullo will all be sworn in for new two-year terms at the ceremony at 4 p.m. in the Town Hall Meeting Room. The public is invited to attend.

All three members of the board will be sworn in by personal choices for the event. Mr. Tesei will be sworn in for his fourth term in office by former First Selectman Rebecca Breed, his political mentor who once encouraged him to run for the Greenwich RTM as a teenager, an election he won. Mr. Theis will be sworn in by William Giacomo, a Supreme Court judge in Westchester County, and Mr. Marzullo will receive the honors from Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, a close political ally.

Mr. Theis, a Republican, noted to the Post that Judge Giacomo is a Democrat and a close friend of his since childhood. Mr. Theis has worked on campaigns for Judge Giacomo and said he wanted to have him swear him in to show the importance of politicians working with colleagues across the aisle to make sure government works.

This board has been known for working closely and well together despite Mr. Tesei and Mr. Theis’ Republican views and Mr. Marzullo being a vocal Democrat.

At the selectmen’s Nov. 14 meeting, which was the final one of the term, the three congratulated each other, particularly Mr. Tesei and Mr. Theis, who won by large margins in their re-elections. Mr. Theis called the three-man board a “good team” and Mr. Marzullo said he was looking forward to working with the others again, a sentiment Mr. Tesei was quick to echo.

“We look forward to serving the citizens of this great town,” Mr. Tesei said.
