First Congregational lines up holiday events

First Congregational Church of Greenwich is prepared to share the holiday spirit this season with a number of events on tap, taking place through Dec. 24.

On Nov. 24 at 7 p.m., enjoy a musical treat at the First Music and Arts Concert: The New England Ringers in the church auditorium. This energetic program is expected to delight family and friends as The New England Ringers lead attendees on a journey through some rich and complex music, from the serious to the sublime, and from quirky to quintessential bells.

The program will feature a variety of music that will appeal to all ages. Tickets are $20 and are available at the door. Admission is free for school-aged children. For more information about the group, or to listen to them, visit Newenglandringers.org.

Then from Nov. 30 though much of December, you can get festive at the Christmas Tree and Wreath Sale, beginning at 9 a.m. The sale continues on Sunday, Dec. 1 and each weekend in December until the trees run out. Also available are wreaths, garland and kissing balls. All proceeds from the sale go to local charities. A full list of these charities will be on display at the tree sale.

Witness the 47th Annual Messiah Performance on Saturday, Dec. 14 and Sunday, Dec. 15, both at 4 p.m., in the historic Meetinghouse of the church. First presented in 1966, the concerts are a holiday favorite, and are one of the finest performances given by musicians from the tri-state area, the church said. Included are the First Church Festival Chorus and Chamber Orchestra, along with soloists, all under the direction of Craig Scott Symons. There is a suggested donation of $20 per person. Finally, celebrate the joy of Christmas on Christmas Eve day at 10 a.m. There will be lessons and carols for families with young children ,including a live nativity at 4 p.m.; family service including Once in Royal David’s City children’s pageant at 5 p.m.; the community carol sing around the tree at 8 p.m. and communion service and carols at 11 p.m.
