Novakowski says campaign showed the best in people

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

In my campaign for tax collector I witnessed so much of the best in people and, to be bluntly honest, some that left a little to be desired. And I’d like to thank those who showed me the best.

My family, especially my wife and children, endured an arduous period of time in all of our lives and every day demonstrated to me how fortunate and blessed I am to have their love and support. I couldn’t imagine the void and loneliness that would be a life without having them to celebrate the good times and withstand the not-so-good times that life inevitably brings.

The same thanks goes to the many friends who were there for me throughout, giving necessary encouragement, financial support and putting up signs to proudly support me. I must mention our own state Rep. Fred Camillo, who “walked the tightrope,” so to speak, balancing the lifelong friendship we share with a constant consciousness of his connection to his party while managing not to breach either. Despite the shallowness of some, who put political obligations ahead of all else, Fred treated myself and his party with the grace and dignity he has always displayed, showing why he maintains such high regard in this community.

I also want to thank the Greenwich Democratic Party for giving me the opportunity to run. Since joining the DTC I’ve come to know so many dedicated people who truly care about this community. It’s no secret Greenwich is an overwhelmingly Republican town and many may not agree with their vision for our town, but a willingness to work hard and a desire to make Greenwich a better place for everyone is at the root of those involved with the Greenwich Democratic party.

I thank the many citizens who came out to vote for me and, yes, those who supported my opponent. You embody the spirit that makes our town and our country the great place it is. By exercising your privilege to choose who represents you in government, you honor the sacrifices made to allow you to do just that.
