Tara Hammonds, a senior at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, has been named a semifinalist in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program.

“Tara is an exceptional young woman, a top student with wide and varied interests, who engages and inspires other students during classroom discussions,” said Jayne Collins, head of the convent’s Upper School. “After completing 125 hours of community service last year, she participated this summer in Sacred Heart’s service-learning program at the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. She never stops applying her abilities to any task at hand, encouraging others and demonstrating her love of learning. In June, she was awarded the Harvard Book Award at Prize Day.”

The Convent of the Sacred Heart recognized Tara on Thursday, Sept. 12 when Head of School Pamela Juan Hayes and Ms. Collins announced her National Merit honor to the entire Upper School at morning meeting.
