Greenwich Academy field hockey blanks Sacred Heart in FAA semis, 4-0

The Greenwich Academy field hockey team kept its quest for another Fairchester Athletic Association crown in check earlier today by upending Convent of the Sacred Heart 4-0 in the semifinals of the FAA tourney.

On senior day, where both team’s seniors were honored before the game in recognition for their contributions to the team and to their schools as leaders, it was GA that came out of the gate soaring. Leading the way was Annie Leonard, who finished with two goals, while Katrina Kraus and Teddi West each added one goal.

When it came to assists, the Gators had several athletes excel, as the group of Hannah Goodrick, Izzy Viola, Maddie Thomas, Maggie Schmidt and Tati Viola each finished with one on the day.

Julia Booth had a stellar outing between the pipes for Greenwich Academy, as she finished with 10 saves. Not to be outdone was Sacred Heart’s Kate Larkin, who finished with 18 saves. GA had the advantage in corners 9-5 and outshot the Tigers 21-5.

With the victory, Greenwich Academy, the top seed in the FAA tournament, advanced to the championship game and will face Rye Country Day School, who finished off Greens Farms Academy earlier today,  for the FAA crown Thursday.
