Bernstein and Peldunas are the team we need

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

I’m writing to support Peter Bernstein and Brian Peldunas for Board of Education.

Bernstein and Peldunas have demonstrated the skills and ability to be effective on the BOE.  Both have played leadership roles in successful and significant schools initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of curriculum or magnet school effectiveness. Both have invested many hours to attend BOE meetings and stay current with the issues. They have developed the community relationships and credibility needed to get things done on a board and they are ready to hit the ground running.

Unlike the BET, neither party on the BOE has a tie-breaking vote. BOE members must be able to work through differences both within and across party lines in order to be effective in moving initiatives forward. The BOE’s four year staggered terms also mean that the board, as a team, must be able to maintain focus and progress while incorporating the energy and fresh perspectives of new colleagues coming on stream during the course of their terms.

Skillful teamwork is a prerequisite for BOE effectiveness. Bernstein and Peldunas have shown they have what it takes to get the job done. They will take responsibility for their role in ensuring the community is represented by an effective and successful board team.

I hope you will join me in supporting Bernstein and Peldunas for BOE on November 5.
