Attorney talks financing for long term care

Local caregivers took a step toward the future on Oct. 23 when Joel Muhlbaum, elder law attorney, presented a seminar entitled Financing Long Term Care at the Caregiver Circle, at River House.

Mr. Muhlbaum covered topics relating to Medicare and Medicaid eligibility in both Connecticut and New York. He also explained the benefits of long term care insurance and programs that offer community-based services in Connecticut. Twenty four caregivers attended and enjoyed a lunch and learned facts that will be helpful in their individual caregiving situations.

The Caregiver Circle, which began Sept. 25, is a free four-part series designed for non-professional caregivers in the community. The series is held on alternating Wednesdays from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at River House, which is located at 125 River Road Extension in Cos Cob.

To register for the next and final session of this year’s fall series on Nov. 6, entitled Communication and Behavioral Issues and presented by Peg Drenckhahn, call 203-622-0079.

Lunch will be provided and respite care is always available.
