Greenwich Academy field hockey gets by Deerfield, 2-1

The Greenwich Academy field hockey team ended its regular season in grand fashion Saturday afternoon, upending Deerfield Academy, 2-1.

Although it was a near-perfect day at Tammaro Field, it was Deerfield that struck first, as Maggie Schilling capitalized on a corner opportunity in the first half.

However, the lead didn’t last and the Gators netted the tie on a corner opportunity of its own. Off the pass from Hannah Goodrick, Annie Leonard gained possession of the ball and found the back of the net for the 1-1 tie. GA scored the g0-ahead goal when Sasha Fritts netted the goal off the pass from Olivia Leseur.

With the regular season at an end, it’s time for the postseason and play in the Fairchester Athletic Association tournament. Greenwich Academy will be in action Tuesday afternoon as they play cross-town rival Convent of the Sacred Heart in the FAA semifinal round. Game time is slated for 2:30 p.m.
