Bernstein and Peldunas bring what schoolboard desperately needs

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

This November, Greenwich voters have the opportunity to elect endorsed Republican candidates Peter Bernstein and Brian Peldunas to the Board of Education.

They are candidates who will provide new ideas, new energy and new solutions to old problems. They best exemplify the productive, effective and respectful characteristics so desperately needed.

The district is struggling for stability that can only be achieved through continuity with our superintendent. A responsive and collegial work environment must be a priority for the future. Showing respect for each other and the established roles and responsibilities within the board is key. The Board of Education’s ability to solve critical issues such as improving academic achievement has been hampered by the continued schisms among its members.

Independent thinking and constructive dissent are critical in arriving at the best decisions. Board votes need not be unanimous. However, there comes a point when dissent outlives its usefulness and becomes corrosive.

The Board of Education members must listen, discuss, debate, and work together to arrive at solutions. Regrettably, it has not worked that way these past four years and it impacted our schools. We should be electing Board of Education members who actually do work and collaborate for the students. Bernstein and Peldunas will move the needle forward for our schools.

It’s time for change. We must send a strong message that we will not tolerate behavior within our board that we would not tolerate among students in our schools. Join me in voting for a fresh start and for new board members.
