The Greenwich High School girls swimming and diving team competed in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championships earlier today at the GHS pool and finished fifth overall with 223.00 points.

Darien High School dominated the competition and won the FCIAC championship with 394.50 points. The next closest team was Wilton High School, who finished second with 274.00 points. Norwalk High School grabbed the bronze with 266.00 points and just beat out New Canaan High School, who finished fourth overall with 259.50 points.

Big Red was led by the swimming of Cristi Frias. In the 100-yard butterfly event, Frias cruised to a first place finish, posting a time of 58.07 seconds. Wilton’s Stephanie Moriarty was second and touched the wall with a time of 59.20.

Earlier in the meet, Frias participated in the 200-yard freestyle event and finished with the bronze, touching the wall with a time of 1:56.55 and was nearly a second faster than New Canaan’s Megan Egan. Norwalk’s Lauren Czulewicz was able to beat out Frias for second, but not by much, netting a time of 1:55.89.

Kim Hill also had a stellar evening in the fastest event of the day, the 50-yard freestyle. Her time of 24.90 was good enough for third place overall and just missed out on second, as Darien’s Lauren Rutledge grabbed silver with a time of 24.78. Competing in the 100-yard freestyle, Hill took home a top 10 finish, grabbing eighth overall with a time of 54.12.

Also grabbing eighth place was Isobel Walker, who competed in the 100-yard backstroke and took home a time of 1:02.37. Teammate Olivia Hallisey finished one spot better in the 500-yard freestyle event, taking seventh on the night with a time of 5:20.90.

Greenwich will be back in action on Nov. 12, when they travel up to Southern Connecticut State University for competition in the class LL championships. The meet will get underway at 6 p.m.
