Sherr is a proven leader

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

We need to send Peter Sherr back to the Board of Education.

After living in Cos Cob for 17 years and having three children in the Greenwich public schools, I know the strengths and weaknesses of our system. Greenwich is facing unprecedented challenges in our education system. We have achievement gaps among certain groups of children. We have overcrowding in certain schools and excess capacity at others. We have teacher shortages in math and science and now we have the state bureaucrats telling us we need to meet racial balance quotas in each of our schools.

Peter has the skills, determination, and experience to solve these problems and be the voice of Greenwich taxpayers and parents. I have known Peter since kindergarten and he has succeeded in nearly everything he’s done.

Whether a parent, businessman, or community volunteer, he engages, collaborates and moves things forward — always with patience, thoughtfulness and intelligence. If he has one weakness, it’s frustration with status quo and tolerating things that don’t work.

We need a leader on the school board who has the proven experience in tackling challenges, proposing new ideas, and demanding real results. If I look at Peter’s achievements on the Board of Education, they are many and well documented. We need his experience today and tomorrow on this board.

As you think about your decision about who to elect, I implore you to consider the risks of bringing in new unproven candidates versus someone who we know can get our job done. It is for this reason I encourage you to support Peter Sherr on Nov. 5.
