Camillo says Sherr and Peldunas deserve election

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

I am writing in support of Peter Sherr and Brian Peldunas to be elected to the Greenwich Board of Education.

My friend Peter is running for re-election and I am one of the many people throughout the town that are supporting him and his steadfast commitment to delivering the best possible education for our children without over-emphasizing things that have very little to do with education and learning, including this focus on busing.

As a person who firmly believes that commitment to ideals and philosophy go hand in hand with being able to reach out across the aisle, or in this case, the table, I admire Peter’s unshakable belief in the value of neighborhood schools in the face of strong criticism from some who fault him for a past vote.

While I don’t always agree with every one of my friends and colleagues, Peter included, I do recognize determination and commitment and Peter stands tall on those traits, in my view.

As for Brian, his business background will, when combined with his civic work in education, bring a well-rounded and prepared person to the board. His 25-year history as managing director at Credit Suisse and a small business owner will benefit the board, students and taxpayers as financial issues and budgets can’t be separated from the endeavor of offering the best quality education for our kids.

Indeed, these are all components of the job of a BOE member. It is, for sure, not an easy job. The demand for funds from the public is constant and separating emotions from the tasks at hand and desired educational goals is something that I believe Brian can do, and do well.

As a former high school history teacher and one who went to our Greenwich schools, I have a strong interest in seeing our schools succeed, our students prepared, and our reputation ranked second to none. I believe Peter and Brian will help in all three areas.

Please join me in voting for Peter Sherr and Brian Peldunas for the Board of Education.

Fred Camillo
