Appelbaum and Erickson have what it takes

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

I am supporting Debbie Appelbaum and Laura Erickson for the Board of Education.

As a former member of the Board of Estimate and Taxation for 12 years, I know what it takes to be a successful board member. The BOE faces many challenges in the upcoming years, and Debbie and Laura provide essential and complementary skills.

Debbie has held important leadership roles on the PTA at all three grade levels as well PTA Council, while Laura has served in leadership positions on PTA boards in elementary and high school. They will bring historical context and continuity to a board that next year is likely to have only eight years’ combined experience.

Debbie will utilize her strong communication skills to communicate the board’s mission and goals to the community at large, school administrators, the BET, and the RTM as well as town departments. Laura has been achieving results in town government on the RTM and in committees for more than a decade. She has a comprehensive understanding of the town budget process through her finance background and RTM service.

Together they are passionate advocates for public education in Greenwich in a fiscally responsible manner and in the context of a well-thought-out plan. Debbie and Laura understand that turning data into information and using that information to make better decisions for both educational and financial purposes benefits the students as well as the taxpayers of Greenwich.

You have four votes to cast for the BOE — make two of those for Debbie Appelbaum and Laura Erickson.
