The Greenwich High School football team had an early deficit during Homecoming Saturday afternoon against Fairfield Warde High School.

However, led by junior Austin Longi, Big Red finished the game with 42 unanswered points and sent the large crowd at Cardinal Stadium home happy, as Greenwich won 42-7.

Nobody had a better day than Longi, finishing with five touchdowns and was just shy of 100 yards on the day. However, one of his more memorable plays happened when he didn’t even reach the end zone, as he threw an 85 yard pass to Devin McGrath to help tie the game at 7-7.

Longi finished with touchdown runs of 47 and 20 yards and added a 45-yard touchdown reception from Marzulla.

In addition to his dominance on the offensive side of the ball, Longi also had a pick-six, intercepting the pass from Warde quarterback Brandon Bisack and ran it back 20 yards for the touchdown. He also was inches away from returning a punt for a touchdown, but was taken down at the Fairfield 8-yard line after an 85-yard return.

Not to be outdone was junior quarterback Matt Marzulla, who finished the day by going 11-for-12 on the day and added 125 yards. He threw for a touchdown and ran eight yards for a score. Jose Melo also had a strong game, grabbing a Marzulla pass six times and netting 71 yards.
