Erickson will commit 110% to Greenwich schools

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

I am one of the many unaffiliated voters in town and am happy to see a contested election this fall for the Board of Education.

My husband and I moved to Greenwich 20 years ago with the expectation of excellent public schools and have found that to be true.  Our three children have attended public schools since kindergarten and it is essential that we have quality individuals sit as members of the Board of Education, especially considering the impact of that body on our town reputation and home values.

Since we voters do have a choice and not a pre-ordained slate of candidates, I cannot think of a better candidate for the Board of Education than Laura Erickson. Laura is smart, dedicated and thoughtful in her approach to issues and problems.  We need those traits on the board.

I have known Laura for 14 years, having served with her on countless volunteer matters in the schools, starting as class parents together when our oldest children were in first grade and, most significantly, as PTA co-president at Riverside School together. Laura is hard working, detail oriented (but not at the expense of the big picture) and effective in getting tasks accomplished.

Her perspective as a Greenwich Public Schools parent/volunteer for the last 15 years will provide the BOE with both historical context as well as an understanding of what is actually going on in the schools at present.

Laura understands the balance that is needed to move forward with complicated issues. She is a good listener and is thoughtful, but also decisive. She is a consensus builder with the goal of improving achievement for all students. These are characteristics that are necessary for serving on the BOE.

When Laura commits to a job, she dedicates herself to it and puts in 110%, as I am sure she will do on the Board of Education. Greenwich will be lucky to have her.

Laura Erickson will be an asset to the BOE and I urge voters of all parties to vote for her on Nov. 5.
