Veteran sportswriter, author to speak at church Oct. 22

Veteran sportswriter and biographer Jack Cavanaugh will speak about his career Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Second Congregational Church.

The program will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Waterman Chapel at 139 E. Putnam Avenue. The free program is sponsored by the church’s Women’s Fellowship.

Mr. Cavanaugh, who grew up in Stamford and currently writes a column for The Stamford Advocate will discuss experiences in his career including writing for The New York Times for 25 years, writing for Sports Illustrated and Reader’s Digest and reporting for ABC and CBS News.

He also is the author of five nonfiction books on sports greats in history, such as Tunney, the story of former heavyweight boxer Gene Tunney and his romance with Carnegie heiress Polly Lauder of Greenwich.
