Outdoor Arts Festival returns

Get a breath of fresh air and enjoy a variety of artistic mediums on Oct. 12 and 13 at the Bruce Museum’s 32nd Annual Outdoor Arts Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

The festival is a juried event featuring more than 85 award-winning artists selected from across the country. Paintings, photography, drawings, prints, sculptures and mixed media pieces will all be available for purchase.

Exhibitors compete for cash prizes in six categories: oils and acrylic on canvas; watercolor and acrylic on paper and under glass; graphics and drawings; mixed media; sculpture and photography. In addition to individual category prizes, there are two major awards given: “Museum’s Choice Award” and the top prize of “Best in Show.”

The event’s live musical performances will include Remember September and Ubuntu, as well as guitar soloists Annalisa Ewald and Ed Wright. Menu offerings feature Lobster Craft, Thai Taste Restaurant and Old Fashioned Kettle Corn. Children’s art activities in the Museum’s Education Workshop are provided for hands-on family fun. At 2 p.m. each day, artist Carol Boucher will demonstrate pastels at the front of the museum steps.

One of the Bruce’s most popular events, the Outdoor Arts Festival annually draws thousands of visitors and has won awards for quality, standards and hospitality.

The festival is held rain or shine on the Bruce Museum grounds at One Museum Drive. Admission is $8 for non-members and free to members and children under five.

Admission includes all festival activities plus entry to the Bruce Museum, which is open to the public during festival hours on both days. Current exhibitions include Closer: The Graphic Art of Chuck Close, Eggs-hibition: Unscrambling Their History, and Telling American History: Realism from the Print Collection of Dr. Dorrance T. Kelly.

Visitors are asked to park on Museum Drive and Steamboat Road or in the Island Beach Parking lot near exit 3 off I-95.
