Sherr is a true Republican candidate

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

There is a struggle within the Republican Party between conservatism and RINO’s (aka Democrats lite) and Greenwich is a microcosm of what’s happening statewide and nationally.

People complain about the constant turnover of superintendents. Blame the Democrats because, most of the time, there have been only two legitimate Republicans on the BOE. The rest are Democrats and faux Republicans.

I was on the RTC and tried many times, under two different chairmen, to come up with a platform to distinguish Republicans from Democrats. But there was one excuse after another. They liked the so-called “big tent,” welcoming people who aren’t loyal to any particular credo except expediency and the status quo.

Sadly, because of these stealth Democrats, the party has lost its integrity.

Once a potential BOE candidate who had voted for Al Gore for president was brought before our committee. We were told that if she didn’t come in as a Republican she’d come in as a Democrat. She was barely accepted by the committee, but the chairman, who was vehemently against her, suggested we give her a unanimous endorsement and she went on to become BOE chair.

Another time, we had a BOE candidate who wasn’t even vetted. For the purpose of disclosure, she said her husband, a schoolmate of Democrat Jim Himes, donated money to his campaign. It turned out she wasn’t even a Republican. But this wasn’t a problem. The registrar of voters swore her in on the spot.

When two members of the Republican Party wanted to change the voting process regarding the BOE to a popular vote rather than the current process of virtual appointments, a BOE Democrat told our RTM district that if this happened, there would be more Democrats becoming Republicans, shamelessly infiltrating the Republican Party.

I want to endorse and recommend someone I know has been and will continue to be a great Republican. He will not sell out. He isn’t “politically correct” and doesn’t go along just to get along. He isn’t an Obama supporter, unlike some other Republicans.

Please vote for Peter Sherr for the Board of Education.
