The Brunswick School crew team had its second race of the fall season and its first of the large fall head races.

The Brunswick Varsity Eight came home with gold medals around their necks, as they captured the Greater Hartford Jaycees Bowl. The Bruins outraced 23 other Varsity Eights. Although most boats were from Connecticut schools and clubs, other crew were from MA, New York, and New Jersey.

The Brunswick Second and Third Eights finished just off the medal podium in their race, but impressed by taking sixth and fourth, respectively, out of 32 junior varsity Eights.

While the times were not what the boys had hoped for, the finish showed Brunswick’s current team depth.

The pouring rain that fell all morning in Hartford kicked up some debris on the Connecticut River, as the Brunswick School Freshmen Eight boat unfortunately had its shell’s skeg/fin knocked off in the warm-up row en route to the start line.

The Bruins’ novice boat was therefore unable to race, so it’s obvious they will certainly be looking forward to next Saturday’s Head of the Housatonic Regatta.
