We need a president who will choose peace

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

Sunday’s New York Times front page summary title “U.S.-Iran Talk Raises Fears” brings to mind Dwight Eisenhower’s wise and timely comment.

The former general and president once said, “Indeed I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of their way and let them have it.”

Eisenhower promised to bring peace in Korea if he was elected president. He was and he did. Since then, several American presidents have chosen war. Johnson did in Vietnam, Bush Sr. in Iraq and Bush Jr. in Afghanistan.

Is there one now listening to the people who pray for peace?
