Registration open for 7th Annual John Zumbo Race

Gl-zumbo-benefit-8-23Lace up your running shoes for the 7th Annual John Zumbo Race, to be held on Sunday, Oct. 6. at 9 a.m. at Bruce Park.

The course is a distance of 5K, which winds around a series of ponds, rolling hills and naturally wooded areas that overlook the Indian Harbor. Runners, walkers, adults pushing strollers and pets are welcome. T-shirts will be given out and prizes will be awarded in several categories.

Small children can race for free in their own competitive event to be held at the picnic area.

Funds raised through the race will benefit the John D. Zumbo Memorial Scholarship Fund, which annually aims to award a scholarship to a Greenwich High School senior who is planning to pursue a career in a fitness or health-related area in college. The scholarship is managed by the Greenwich Scholarship Association. To date 12 scholarships have been awarded.

The scholarship was established in memory of John Zumbo and celebrates his love of health and fitness. Mr. Zumbo, a life-long resident of Greenwich and personal trainer, owned Physique Transformations LLC here in town. He died in 2006 at the age of 28.

All those interested in fitness and having fun are welcome to join in the event. Registration can be done online prior to the race at or on the day of the event.
