Clambake serves up politics

Greenwich Republicans will gather this weekend to kick off the campaign season and residents supporting the grand ol’ party can join them.

The Cos Cob Republican Club and the Greenwich Republican Town Committee’s 82nd annual clambake and campaign kickoff will be held on Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Greenwich Point clambake area from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will be held rain or shine and, while enjoying a menu of the clam bar, clam chowder and your choice of lobster, steak, swordfish, chicken or vegetarian, there will be a full roster of speakers boosting the Republican Party’s chances in Greenwich this year and beyond.

First Selectman Peter Tesei and Selectman David Theis, both of whom are seeking new terms this November, will be among the speakers at the popular annual event and they will be joined at the clambake by the Republican candidates for the Board of Estimate and Taxation and the Board of Education. Additionally, State Sen. L. Scott Frantz and State Reps. Livvy Floren, Stephen Walko and Fred Camillo have all been invited to help boost the party and get the campaign effort rolling toward the municipal elections in November.

But the focus won’t just be on 2013 at the clambake. Those looking ahead to the congressional and gubernatorial races of 2014 will also have plenty to discuss. Congressional candidate Dan Debicella, who is looking to challenge U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, is expected to attend and there will also be a lot of focus on next year’s race for governor as Greenwich’s Tom Foley is one of four declared Republicans seeking the nomination to take on Gov. Dannel Malloy.

The speeches are expected to begin at 2 p.m. There will also be music and organized games for kids.

Tickets are still available and are $50 per adult and $5 per child. Kids under five-years-old eat free. Anyone interested in getting lobster at the event needs to reserve it in advance.

You can register online for tickets at and can pay by credit card. You can also pay by check to The Cos Cob Republican Club. Questions about the event and tickets should be emailed to [email protected]
