Boys & Girls Club ready to get dirty at 5K event

Prepare to get down and dirty on Sept. 29 when more than 400 adults, teens, kids and families will get muddy with Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich (BGCG) for the second “Muddy Up 5k Adventure Race and Family Fun Walk” at Camp Simmons on 744 Lake Avenue.

Great fun is guaranteed at the 5K run/walk through rugged trails on 77 acres of pure wilderness. Participants will forge through more than 13 man-made obstacles before traversing Camp Simmons’ legendary lake across the rope bridge.

After runners make it to the finish line, the Greenwich Fire Department will be on hand to hose down participants. While the race is competitive and first place winners will receive awards, other categories, such as team spirit, biggest fund-raiser, muddiest kid and more will receive special acknowledgment too.

Individuals and teams consisting of runners and/or walkers, fun lovers and kid supporters over the age of six, are invited to take part in this run/walk in support of kids. The minimum registration fee for each runner is $30, but it is requested that runners and donors set personal fund-raising goals to ensure BGCG reaches its goal of $50,000.

Registered runners and walkers will receive food, refreshments and an event T-shirt. Registration for the race begins at 8:30 a.m. and the starting gun goes off at 9:30.

Outdoors programming increases a kid’s self-confidence, instills a sense of adventure, promotes a healthy lifestyle, and is pure fun, according to the club. The community can help BGCG reach its $50,000 goal needed to support essential outdoors programs.
