Then sign your pooch up for these show class contests to be held at the 26th Puttin’ On the Dog event in Greenwich on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, hosted by Adopt-a-Dog. As part of the annual show, judges will be looking to award prizes for an assortment of classes, including Puppy Love (for puppies under 12 months); Mixed with the Most (for any mixed breed dog); Who Saved Who (for dog owners who saved each other); Pick of the Litter (for any purebred dog); Aged to Perfection (for dogs 10 years or older) and Mirror Mirror (for owners and dogs who look alike).

The show class competitions end with the famous Puttin’ On the Dog costume parade contest, a fan favorite that has both an adult and a children’s division. The deadline for online or mailed show class entries is Sept. 19. Puttin’ On the Dog attendees also can register for contests on the day of the festival.

Go to for details. The fee is $10 for one class and $5 for each additional category entered.

The day’s activities for dogs, their families and all pet lovers include performances by popular local bands, demonstrations, children’s events, shopping and information booths, displays and food. Puttin’ On the Dog is an important fund-raiser to aid Adopt-A-Dog in its mission to provide dogs with a safe, healthy and quality environment while they await adoption.

Adopt-A-Dog is an established nonprofit rescue/adoption organization with a caring sanctuary for dogs and cats located in Armonk, N.Y.

Some 7,000 people joined their four-legged friends at last year’s Puttin’ On the Dog festival and this year organizers are hoping to attract even more attendees from the tri-state area. Sponsor support is critical and Adopt-A-Dog has been fortunate to have several loyal sponsors, organizers said.
