Chamber Music Central to hold auditions

music note stockIf you’re a young musician between the ages of eight and 18 in town, tune up your instrument for Chamber Music Central’s auditions for the fall semester, to take place on Sept. 8 and 14 at 1 p.m. in Westport and on Sept. 15 in Greenwich at 2 p.m.

During the auditions, each lasting from 10 to 15 minutes, students will be asked to present a scale of their choice, as well as two contrasting pieces that demonstrate their skill level. Additionally, a piece of sight reading material will be provided. The auditions are not competitive but serve to place students into well-matched and level-appropriate trios and quartets for the semester.

The program, beginning in late September, offers students the opportunity to continue their chamber music experience during the school year, learn new repertoire and become more unified and expressive in their music making. Students receive 10 hours of coaching per semester during flexible after-school or weekend sessions in Westport, Fairfield and Greenwich. The semester concludes with a gala concert, featuring the young musicians.

To schedule an audition time, register on Chamber Music Central’s website at Chambermusiccentral.org. For any further questions call Artistic Director Millette Alexander at 203-227-4374.

Chamber Music Central, based in Westport, was created for the purpose of providing chamber music study and performance opportunities to intermediate and advanced piano, string and woodwind players. Begun in 1997 as a two-week summer music camp, the organization now operates as a year-round program, offering three sessions in the summer, as well as fall and spring semesters.
