Students at the First Presbyterian Church Nursery School went above and beyond finger painting at their May 3 art exhibition, entitled Meet the Masters.

The four-year-olds were encouraged to try their hand at techniques used by famous painters in history.

Children presented their interpretation of Vincent Van Gogh’s Sunflowers and watercolor canvases like those of Claude Monet.

To mimic Michelangelo’s painting of the Sistine Chapel, children lay on their back and sketched on canvases attached to the bottom of desks. Splatter paintings were made in the abstract aesthetic of Jackson Pollock. The Meet the Masters art exhibition concluded with class parties and treats.

Parents and friends were thrilled to attend the exhibition and view their children’s creations, the school said.
