Registration for Greenwich youth basketball clinics start Sept. 9

The Department of Parks and Recreation announces that youth basketball clinics will be at the Bendheim Western Civic Center on Thursdays, starting Sept. 26 and running until Oc.t 24.

The program is for children in fifth through eighth grades and is specifically designed to get children ready for the upcoming basketball season.

Fifth and sixth graders will work out from 4 to 5 p.m., while seventh and eighth graders will go from 5 to 6 p.m.

Coach John Czarnecki will teach the clinics. Czarnecki has designed the program to help the players learn skills needed to shoot, pass, dribble and rebound, as well as how to play individual and team defense. Players will get a chance to display those skills in a combination of drills, games and contests.

Czarnecki is certified by the State of Connecticut and has coached for over 25 years. He has coached for the Greenwich Basketball Association, Greenwich Flames travel team, Greenwich Boys and Girls Club and the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity basketball teams at Greenwich High School.

The clinics will be held in the Bendheim Western Civic Center gym. Registration will begin by mail only starting on Monday, Sept. 9. In-person registration at the Civic Center will be on Monday, Sept. 16 and will last until the sessions are full.
