Expert to discuss Plato’s ‘Republic’

Greenwich resident and philosophy master Herbert Roseman is set to lead a discussion series on Plato’s Republic at the Greenwich Senior Center on Fridays this fall.

After a long business career Dr. Roseman returned to academe. He received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Columbia University when he was 70-years-old. His dissertation concerns the problem of the existence of human altruism in a Darwinian world and he developed mathematical models and computer simulations to explore this problem. He also holds a Masters degree in physics and an M.B.A. Dr. Roseman also taught philosophy as an adjunct professor at Fordham, Seton Hall, Sacred Heart and Drew universities and at Columbia Business School.

He is currently teaching at Columbia College.

In order to have a base knowledge of the material Dr. Roseman will be discussing, he highly recommends interested individuals obtain and read a copy of the Crito or Republic. The books are easily and affordably accessible in paperback or can be found at Greenwich Library.

The series will be held on Fridays and it is scheduled to kick off next month on Sept. 6 at 1:15 p.m. in the Senior Center’s main dining room. After that, there are sessions scheduled for Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, 18 and 25. For those who have mobile devices, copies can be downloaded onto a Kindle or Nook device.
