McKersie appoints World Languages Coordinator

Superintendent of Schools William McKersie recently said “si” to Viviana Conner, who was appointed as the World Languages Coordinator for the Greenwich Public School district.

Ms. Conner, who currently serves as the principal of the Hallen School in Bridgeport, is described as thoroughly bilingual and has been a Spanish teacher as well as a school administrator during her career.

Dr. McKersie noted, “Ms. Conner combines a thorough knowledge of world language education with enthusiasm, passion, and administrative experience. She has facilitated professional development opportunities in world languages and can guide the department in aligning its curriculum with the Common Core standards and new teaching approaches. I also am pleased that Ms. Conner brings rich experience teaching a diverse set of students.”

“As an educator and administrator,” Ms. Conner said, “my main goal is to ensure that all students are provided with appropriate and challenging instruction in order to afford them a meaningful and successful experience every day of the school year.”

As a principal in the Bridgeport Public Schools, Ms. Conner has supervised the teaching staff on effective instruction on a school-wide basis. She has facilitated the leadership team, promoted parent, student and community involvement in the school, and ensured the successful operations of the school. In addition, Ms. Conner implemented and monitored school-wide data teams using data driven decision-making. She developed and implemented school-based professional development and ensured that all bilingual and special education needs were being met for the school’s students. Ms. Conner was also a Title I Grants administrator, providing oversight for all aspects of the program. Finally, Ms. Conner, in addition to having been a Spanish teacher, was an administrator of a high school bilingual department and world language department.

Ms. Conner received her BA from Central Connecticut State University; a Master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University and a sixth year degree from Southern Connecticut State University in Education Leadership.
