Mehta, Fedrickson win Greenwich’s Island Beach swim

Sivan Mehta wins the Greenwich Island Beach Two-Mile Swim event last weekend.

Sivan Mehta had some tough competition, but was able to pull through and capture the Greenwich Swim Committee’s Island Beach Two-Mile Swim last weekend.

The event, sponsored by the town of Greenwich and the Greenwich Swim Committee, started at 6:45 a.m. at Greenwich Harbor, as swimmers boarded the ferry to Island Beach. Around 90 swimmers took to the two-mile course that was marked off by buoys and was protected by official boats.

Mehta was the first swimmer to cross the finish line, netting a time of 41 minutes, 15 seconds. Mehta, 18, is a Scarsdale, N.Y. resident and will be attending Carnegie Mellon University in the fall.

Not far behind was Rob Rodriguez, who finished only six seconds behind Mehta. Grabbing the bronze was Josh Glantz, who took home a time of 42:38.

For the women, Fedrickson was the quickest female to complete the course, taking home a time of 46:35. She was nearly three minutes faster than Brenna Davis, who took second for females with a time of 49:59. Corri Stewart was the third fastest woman to cross the finish line, taking home a time of 51:01.
