Alliance for Education thanks supporters

The Greenwich Alliance for Education would like to recognize the efforts of Joe Kaliko, AKA “Citizen K” and his “partner” State Rep. Fred Camillo (R-151st) in their work to support the alliance’s College Assistance Program (CAP).

The Greenwich Alliance established CAP to support the 16 students who graduated on June 21 as the first cohort of AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students from Greenwich High School. All 16 seniors will be the first in their families to attend college.

Since the financial burden and structure of higher education are both exciting and daunting for these students and their families, the CAP program provides stipends for books for all graduating AVID students, and the alliance hopes over time to create a fund large enough to assist students if their finances should potentially cause them to leave school.

To help raise the necessary funds, the alliance called upon the team of Mr. Kaliko and Mr. Camillo, who have established a “LP3” Venture (Local Public Private Partnership Venture) with the objective of identifying charitable needs and matching the needs with individuals and members of the business community who are not necessarily aware of the charitable organization or need.

The LP3 Venture made members of the community and area businesses aware of the alliance’s need and within just two weeks the pair was able to raise nearly all of the CAP funds needed to provide all 16 graduating students with stipends as well as generate new donor contacts for ongoing support of the organization.

Providing opportunities and services that foster educational success for students is part of the alliance’s mission. The organization thanks Mr. Kaliko, Mr. Camillo and all of its donors for supporting CAP and other programs which “open doors for kids in Greenwich.”
