Greenwich Crew’s Paul Pugliese and Greenwich native Maryellen Auger rowed through excessive heat, against the tide, wind and currents to win first and third place medals in the 27th annual Blackburn Challenge.

Echo rower Pugliese rowed to first place in the men’s division with a time of 3:18.00, while fellow Echo rower Auger took home the bronze in the women’s division with a time of 3:57.55.

The 20-mile course was located on Cape Ann, just off of Gloucester, Mass. Nearly 400 athletes competed in all manner of human-powered water craft, rowing and paddling the course.
