Local organizations continue infant car seat collections

In an effort to reach out to local young families, The Greenwich Silver Shield Association and Mothers for Others recently teamed up to donate booster and infant car seats to families in the Greenwich community that could otherwise not afford them.

This is the second time in the last year that these community groups partnered for this purpose and they will continue these efforts throughout the year.

“This is a great way for two local community groups to work together and help people in our own backyard,” said Karen Giannuzzi, founder of Mothers for Others.

Lt. Tom Keegan of The Greenwich Silver Shield Association agreed, adding, “It is a privilege to work with Mothers for Others to help provide car seats for these families and to keep our community’s children safe.”

Mothers for Others is an organization, primarily run by a group of mothers, that collects gently used clothing, toys and baby equipment, then redistributes the items to needy families in the community. Since the spring aof 2010, Mothers for Others has collected more than $1,000,000 in donations and has helped more than 500 families in the Greenwich, Stamford and Port Chester, N.Y. areas.

The Greenwich Silver Shield, which serves as the union for the members of the Greenwich Police Department, pursues projects to support and promote family safety and to foster better police and community relations.

The Silver Shield’s Bicycles for B’s program identifies children who have displayed leadership and citizenry and rewards them with bicycles that are donated to the organization. Bicycles may be donated to the Silver Shield by contacting Lt. Tom Keegan at 203-869-9519. Financial donations in support of their efforts may be made to the Greenwich Silver Shield, PO Box 1123, Greenwich, CT 06836.

Donations of toys, diapers, clothing and baby equipment for Mothers for Others may be dropped off at Second Congregational Church, located at 139 East Putnam Avenue. For more information, contact Ms. Giannuzzi at 203-340-1259, by e-mail at [email protected] or on Facebook at Mothers for Others.
