Greenwich American Legion senior Cannon first baseman Nick Kono preps to grab the ball at first base during the team’s opening game of the State Sectional  against Bethel. In that game, the senior Cannons dominated early, grabbing a 6-0 lead after one inning and cruised to a 7-3 victory at Greenwich High School. Cameron Fennell led the way with three hits, while Matt Pruner added two doubles and Jonathan Dreher added two hits. However, in the Sectional Finals against Waterbury Tuesday afternoon, Greenwich was unable to capitalize on several scoring chances and ended its season with a 6-2 loss. Greenwich, trailing 4-0 at the time, scored both its runs in the sixth inning. After Billy O’Malley netted the team’s first hit, a few batters later Taylor Olmstead netted a sacrifice fly to bring home a run. A few batters later, Kono was able to drill a single to cut the deficit in half.
