Campers prepare for an early ‘Christmas’

We’ve all heard the phrase “Christmas in July” and the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich Camp Simmons is preparing to provide just that to its campers with a visit from Santa himself and other holiday activities on July 25.

For the 13th year in a row more than 200 camp participants and counselors-in-training will enjoy a day of holiday themed festivities in celebration of the season that is still several months away. The day will include a visit from St. Nick and his summer sleigh riders from the North Street Fire Department who will help campers cool down with a life sized sprinkler system, also known as a fire hose.

The event has become a Camp Simmons tradition and campers eagerly look forward to the celebration, while the firefighters of the North Street Fire Department look forward to interacting with the kids, according to the Boys & Girls Club. There isn’t a person involved — staff, kids or volunteers — who doesn’t get jolly over Santa, the club added.

The event will take place rain or shine on Thursday, July 25 at 12:45 p.m. at Camp Simmons, 744 Lake Avenue. For more information call 203-869-3224.
