Town woman run down by her own car

A Greenwich woman is in critical condition after she was run over by her own car Wednesday evening.

According to police, Xu Yang, a resident of Loughlin Avenue, had parked the car in her driveway, which is on a moderate incline. Ms. Yang exited the vehicle and left the gear shift in “drive” and the car began moving forward, pulling her with it in the driver’s door opening.

Ms. Yang was then able to reach into the car to shut off the ignition, at which time the car started to roll backwards with her still positioned in the driver’s door opening. The car rolled back until the driver’s door struck a tree, and Ms. Yang fell to the ground and went under the door.

The driverless vehicle then continued down the driveway until the rear of the car hit a stone wall and a decorative pine tree and lamp post.

Police say Ms. Yang was transported and admitted to Stamford Hospital for her injuries and was last listed as in critical but stable condition.

No other parties were injured and no other vehicle was struck, police said.
