Billy and the Showmen to perform

music note stockThe Department of Parks and Recreation will continue its popular Wednesday Night Concert Series with a performance by Billy and the Showmen on July 17 at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park.

The Greenwich Police’s Silver Shield Association will sponsor the concert.

Established more than 30 years ago, Billy and the Showmen have earned a reputation as one of Connecticut’s best and most enduring R&B bands. Its members have played with such artists as Billy Vera, the Chiffons, Bo Diddley and Jackie Wilson in venues as diverse as Madison Square Garden, the Village Vanguard, the Village Gate and the Bottom Line.

Billy and the Showmen specialize in hard-driving R&B, soul and funk from the 60s and 70s. The band’s repertoire includes the best of Blood, Sweat & Tears, Tower of Power, Kool & the Gang, and classic Motown artists such as the Temptations.

The Department of Parks and Recreation encourages attendees to bring a picnic dinner and a blanket and listen to some wonderful music under the stars. If it rains the concert will be held on Thursday, July 18.
