Princess, 13, canine competition winner

Obit-Princess-7-11Princess, the winner of canine competitions, died on July 5, after a lengthy illness.

She died “peacefully in the arms of her adopted mom,” Karen Fassuliotis, and with her adopted brother Simon by her side.  She was 13.

Rescued from New York City, Princess was a past winner of the Canine Crooner and Best Kisser competition at Adopt-A-Dog’s annual Puttin’ on the Dog as well as a frequent runner up. She volunteered at The Nathaniel Witherell and sang Happy Birthday to many of the residents.

According to Ms. Fassuliotis, Princess’s favorite pastime was walking in Bruce Park, where she logged many hours and became friendly with the others she encountered there. Speedy, Caesar, Marco, Shanley, Cody, Lucy, Max, Sugar, Remy, Lady, Cooper and all her other friends will miss the joy she had in meeting and greeting them. Ms. Fassuliotis said. Her adopted brother, Simon, already misses her the most, she said.

Princess received care from the doctors at Cornell University Veterinary Center and the Bedford-Greenwich Animal Hospital. Ms. Fassuliotis said those considering bringing a dog into their lives should adopt from one of the many worthy rescues in the area.

“Princess gave unconditional love to her family and friends, but most of all to her mom, whom she loved most of all. May her memory be eternal,” Ms. Fassuliotis said.

Memorial donations may be made to Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program, Cornell University, Office of Alumni Affairs and Development, College of Veterinary Medicine, Box 39, Ithaca, NY 14853.
