Coast Guard offers boating safety course

With summer in full swing, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 78’s  “About Boating Safety” classes are coming right on time, beginning Saturday, July 13.

About Boating Safety is an eight-hour course that meets the CT Boating Education requirement for boaters. Many insurance companies offer discounts on boat insurance policies for boaters who have completed a safe boating course. The classes take place at the Greenwich Water Club, in Cos Cob.

Topics covered in the course are an introduction to boating, boat safety equipment, aids to navigation and boating law. Also covered are potential boating problems, safe boating procedures and personal water craft such as kayaks and boards. There is also an emphasis on correct trailering of small boats.

The classes will be given on July 13 and July 28, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This course is well-known to Greenwich boaters, as many locals have taken it over the years. It is the foundation class of safety on the water.

The cost is $75 per person. All training materials are included. As each class is limited in the number of participants, advance reservations are required.
