Send aid, not weapons, to Syria

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

I would like to say that war is not the answer.

For the U.S. to get into yet another war that may not solve anything is definitely not a good step. In my lifetime, we should have learned that fighting in Vietnam and the Gulf did nothing to shore up the U.S. defense and the price was paid in a terrible number of U.S. and Vietnamese, Iraqi, and Afghani lives lost or lived at half speed when the shooting and napalming and explosions stopped.

Having spent my career helping veterans and active duty military, I have seen a lot of pain and suffering.

Humanitarian aid should be given to refugees and opposition groups as well as refugee camps to which Syrians have fled. We should have full congressional authorization before sending arms to Syria. Weapons and military funds are not the answer. The Murphy, Udall, Lee, Paul bill in the U.S. Senate should be enacted.

All of us should contact our senators at once.
