A person’s interest offers hope

Is there a spark of hopeful light for the tower at the end of the tunnel after no response for so long?

Everyone seems so self-involved today. Just the other day, in the express line of the Glenville Stop & Shop, I stood behind a woman with a large order. I only have a few things but I’m just waiting until I look behind me and there’s a girl with one item, rolling her eyes at the lady in front.

“Only in Greenwich” I say and I tell the girl that I’m sure in the city at least the woman would have said sorry. But I find in this area and probably many others, most seem just focused on themselves. I then tell her tragic stories about some local historic spots that have been destroyed by this self-centered blight that seems to be taking over.

I’ve been sad about the lack of interest in the Coastal Watch Tower. Yet, I did not know I was about to find a “spark of lighted hope.” After dealing with the self-centered types, I discovered a purposeful individual.

I told her about the tower and she was interested in getting involved. As I reached in my case for flyer about this, she talked about her child and the many jobs she had. She told me of how she started her own Scout troop for her child and with so few in Scouting now, I was impressed. Whether she gets back to me or not she is the first person to show a willingness to help right a great wrong.

Her saying she would like to get involved gives hope that change can happen. All is not lost when a busy person offers time.

Before she showed interest I could tell she had a full plate. I was surprised to learn that she was holding down more than one job and was a single parent. Yet she still wanted to help. So I shout we should see her as an example.

The Greenwich Point Coastal Watch Tower should be restored.
