Greenwich High baseball team gets no-hit in loss to Amity in CIAC tourney

After upending Cheshire High School 9-2 in the first round and Conard High School 4-2 in the second round of the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference class LL tournament, the Greenwich High School baseball team ran drove into a roadblock named Michael Concato on its way to the semifinal round.

Competing for the No. 6 seeded Amity Regional High School, Concato stepped on he mound at GHS and put on a show, firing a no hitter that helped give the Spartans a 6-0 victory over the Cardinals in the class LL quarterfinal round.

After both Concato and GHS starting pitcher J.T. Hentzen battled back-and-forth for the first two innings, Amity came out and netted four runs in the top of the third inning. The Spartans added another run in the sixth and seventh innings.

With the loss, Greenwich finished its season with a 19-4 record. Amity, who will play No. 10 seeded Fairfield Prep in the class LL semifinals Tuesday afternoon at Muzzy Field in Bristol, upped its overall record to 19-4.
