‘Summer Fun’ is just around the corner

The Department of Parks and Recreation has announced that mail-in registration for its Summer Fun camp is underway.

Summer Fun is a seven-week day camp held from Tuesday, June 25 through Friday, Aug. 9, operating from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each weekday (excluding July 4). There is a section for ages six to nine, and a section for ages 10 to 13 (age as of June 1).

Activities include arts and crafts, sports, board games, tournaments, theme days, trips and beach days. Summer Fun meets at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays, at Greenwich Point on Mondays and Wednesdays, and at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park on Fridays to take the 10 a.m. ferry to Island Beach.

Parents are supposed to provide their own transportation to and from the civic center, beach or ferry. Parents must also attend an orientation session.

Campers must be Greenwich residents. The fee is $500 for the seven weeks with additional fees for four outside trips and some special events.

Completed applications should be mailed to the Department of Parks and Recreation, P.O. Box 2540, Greenwich CT 06836. Registration will be accepted at the department’s office beginning June 1, provided space is still available.
