Beatriz Williams will speak at the library this week.

The ongoing series [email protected] will present remarks from Beatriz Williams, author of A Hundred Summers, on Tuesday, June 4 at 7 p.m. in the Cole Auditorium.

Ms. Williams’s debut novel Overseas became an international bestseller, turning cynics into romantics.

Now in A Hundred Summers, Ms. Williams probes classic themes in a Depression-era tale about love lost and found and the high price paid for guarding secrets.

In this book, Ms. Williams mines a devastating event — the great New England hurricane of 1938 — as she recreates the rigid class distinctions and glittering glamour of New York’s upper crust, with what Library Journal calls “smart, delicious writing… (with her) signature touch of historic drama.”

At the center of her story is New York socialite Lily Dane and her ex-best friend Budgie Byrne. They were childhood friends and classmates at Smith College but the crash of ‘29 changed the world they knew.

According to the library, “This emotionally charged story slips back and forth between a romance gone wrong and a natural disaster of epic proportions, the perfect backdrop for a love story that transcends the romance genre and promises to linger in each reader’s memory.”

A Stanford University honors graduate with an MBA in finance from Columbia, Ms. Williams lives in Greenwich with her husband and four children.

[email protected] is made possible through the support of the Greenwich Library Board of Trustees and contributions by generous donors.

Books will be available for purchase and signing through Diane’s Books.

This series is free and open to all, but seating in the Cole Auditorium is limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
