Greenwich High girls tennis team starts play this week in CIAC tourney

The Greenwich High School girls tennis team, which finished with a 15-1 regular season, will start play in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference class L playoffs next week and will enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed.

Big Red’s first round opponent will be No. 15 seeded Cheshire High School, which finished the regular season with a 13-5. The game will be played Tuesday afternoon at the Greenwich High School tennis courts at 3 p.m.

If the Lady Cardinals advance, they will battle the winner of the No. 7 seeded Daniel Hand versus 10th seeded New Canaan High School at home Wednesday afternoon at 4.

Amity was the class L top seed this year, finishing the regular season as the only undefeated team in the tournament with a 17-0 record. Newtown High School tied Big Red with a 15-1 record, but Greenwich won the tiebreaker and pushed Newtown to the No. 3 seed.
