Town Party still a go, but extension plans for Greenwich Avenue cancelled due to rain

In an announcement released early Friday evening, organizers for the Greenwich Town Party say they “regretfully” are forced to cancel the planned extension event for Greenwich Avenue. However, the main set up at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park will proceed rain or shine.

No vendors or artists have canceled for tomorrow’s Greenwich Town Party so a slate of musicians including the legendary James Taylor as well as Blues Traveler and Michael Franti and Spearhead are set to go . But the planned extension that would have featured local bands as well as free events for the whole family in the parking lot of the Havemeyer Building has been canceled due to weather forecasts of rain for Saturday. Organizers said this is because of all the electrical equipment that would have had to be protected in the parking lot.

The town’s showmobile stage is being used at the main party in the park so this is not a concern as of Friday evening.

“This decision was made in the best interest of safety for bands, vendors, and attendees of this extension event,” a town party press release said. “The stage and electrical equipment at the Roger Sherman Baldwin Park location is completely undercover so this event will continue 100% as planned unless a temporary break is needed in the event of lightening/thunder, which is not expected at this time.”

The press release added that planners felt, “…this has been the hardest decision the GTP has had to make in three years.”

People who do not have tickets can listen to WGCH 1490AM on Saturday from 9:45am to 6:00pm to listen to a live broadcast and partial simulcast of the main Greenwich Town Party event at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park.
