Greenwich High baseball, softball ready to rock CIAC class LL tournaments

This morning, the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference announced its pairing for the baseball and softball tournaments and Greenwich High School will be a part of the action that gets underway next week.

The Big Red baseball team finished the regular season 17-3 overall and will be seeded third in the class LL postseason. Greenwich will take on No. 30 seed Cheshire High School Tuesday afternoon at GHS. Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m.

If Greenwich High advances, they will host the winner of the Conard High School versus South Windsor High School game, which will be played the next day at 3:30 p.m.

Xavier, which finished the regular season 19-1 was seeded tops in class LL, with Bristol Central, also with a 19-1 record, took the second spot.

After coming off a stellar regular season and competing in the FCIAC playoffs for the first time since the 2004 season, the Greenwich High School softball team will be doing something they haven’t done in a while as well during this year’s class LL tournament.

The Lady Cardinals, which finished with a 15-5 regular season record, are seeded ninth overall in class LL and will host a playoff game. Greenwich will battle No. 24 seeded Norwich Free Academy, which posted a 10-9 regular season record. Game time at Greenwich High School wil be 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.

If GHS comes out victorious in their first round game, they will face the winner of the No. 8 Glastonbury vs. No. 25 Brien McMahon High School game the next day. If McMahon pulls off the upset, the game will be at Greenwich High School, however if Glastonbury wins, Greenwich will be on the road and travel to Glastonbury High School for a game that gets underway at 4.

Overall, Southington High School took the top seed in class LL with a 19-1 regular season record, followed by Bristol Central at No. 2 and Daniel Hand High School as the No. 3 seed. The FCIAC has the next two slots, as Darien High School grabbed the No. 4 seed in the playoffs and Stamford finished fifth in class LL.
